5-MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE RECIPE

The following recipe came from a friend (who didn't make it) who got it from a friend of hers (who didn't make it). And I haven't made it yet either. I'm waiting for a visit from a grandchild so we can make it together. I can hardly wait. Meanwhile, I'm putting it out here so that one of you grannies reading this can get inspired -- and can tell me whether it's really as good as it sounds. Also, if anyone knows where it originated, I'd like to give credit where credit is due.

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well..
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

I teach English in middle school and my class used this recipe. We researched "The History of Chocolate" together and after our research and writing, we made the Chocolate Mug Cake. The kids loved it. They topped it with whipped cream and shared their wonderful 'chocolate' dessert. Some of us thought the recipe seemed a little 'flat' and I think I am going to try it with a pinch or two of salt next time to see if it helps. Wonderful fun! THX!!!

I'm so glad you and your class had fun with this recipe -- what a great adjunct to a history lesson! Since I posted this I did make it with two of my granddaughters. We couldn't believe how much it rose -- watching it was almost as much fun as eating it. Thanks for your feedback.

We made this recipe in our Home econimics class, and our teacher said that her friend Sophie came up with this recipe and posted it online, so I think she's the one who made this first. Hope this helps alot.
