Just Granny and Me

I have a hard time understanding those grandmothers who say "I don't babysit." Don't they know how much more fun it is being with a grandchild when the parents aren't around? After all, when you have her all to yourself (most of my grandchildren are "hers"), you're the one she comes to with her interesting questions (like "How does the tooth fairy know where to find me when I'm at your house?"); you're the one she snuggles up to when she wants to read -- or have you read -- a favorite book; you're the one she shows off her special tricks in the swimming pool to; you're the one she beats at Checkers (thanks to the two "imaginary" checkers her day camp counselor told her she could play with); you're The One. As much as I love my grandchildren's mothers (my daughters) and want to spend time with them, there's a special joy in the times when you're a twosome, just Grandchild and You.

This is one great suggestion guide which not only helps understand and relate lovingly with your grandchildren (or nieces or nephews, etc), but will strengthen the lifelong bond between you. That bond will leave an indelible impression, understanding, and appreciation. I know that my grandparents' involvement in my life has had that impact on me which I dearly cherish. From "Super Grannies" I now have a greater understanding of how they did that and some helpful guidance on how I can have a like relationship with my grandkids that they will likewise cherish. Thank you.

I agree Sally.

There is magic in those moments alone with our grandchild. Kenz and I have a place we go to everytime we take a walk around the block where she lives. There is a bubbling water fountain and a concrete bench, where I sit while she perfoms. She comes from behind the fountain and makes up songs. She pretends she is on onstage, has some unbelieveable stage names ( Leena Smagoldie), ones she makes up. She pretends she knows me. "Aren't you Connie?" she asks.
I can't describe some of the harlarious, wonderful twist and turns her little mind comes up with. It's the fun that happens at the fountain that neither one of us will ever forget.

I have so many memories of my grandmothers and our alone times. Now I get to be the one making those memories as I have two little grandbabies and another on the way. Bella(2-1/2 yrs) can't wait to come for Grandma's Special Day! Our grandchildren need us so much at this time with everything they deal with in the world around them. Thanks for sharing the importance of being with your grandchildren.

Right on, Sally! I love having my grandchildren to myself now and then. Grandchildren adore you whereas your own children loved you ... there is a big difference!
